102771rom an early age the boy had pondered his place among the legacy of his house. Fallen from grace as it was, landed by the grace of the once Kaiser's remembrance of his Great Uncle's sacrifice at the Battle of Breakwater and that grace alone.

Wolfgang knew he was no James Harrister and perhaps he would never be. The strength of arms and divine sense of duty had never taken him as it had his Great Uncle, and he had little reason to suspect it would any time soon. He was fourteen and thin, preferring the sparing moments with what few tutors his parents could afford and the books they brought with them. His father cared little for this enthusiasm and would tolerate it so long as he did not disappoint in his martial studies. The boy, of course, did.

He had grown fond of riding. The animals were gentle and the wind in his hair felt like freedom. A small part of himself held hope this would be enough to please the petty lord looking for a son of legend to replace the dead. It was as futile as the larger part reasoned. Wolfgang had no natural skill with a blade and his nature held disdain for the thought of ever killing another man. How could a knight despise bloodshed? The bruises and beatings from his lessons were tolerable at night by the candlelight as he practiced instrument and devoured whatever books could be found. A Harrister though he was, eventually his father gave up upon the idea of making use of this son and turned to the next.

And so he turned to other thoughts. A paltry sum must exist in his eldest, but only somewhere his disgrace would be hidden from eyes. He looked north, to Kane.

A letter and a returned word later and Wolfgang's father had his plot: the boy would ward with Kane and he would gain favor and alliance. The father spent his coin on finer clothing than the son had ever worn, and styled his hair in a neat slicked manner. Queensport had no interest in a ward, but Eastwatch to the south did. Wolfgang rode with his father until he could see the fields of the village in the distance.

The Duchess had a reputation he was unsure of - fear and anxiety at further disappointment trailed him like a cloak as he dismounted the horse he had been given for the trip. Wolfgang knocked at the door of the keep and prepared to make a first impression. The end of one life had arrived.

105133In its place another had begun. The boy was soon accepted within the Duchess's shadowy halls and sworn to a secrecy regarding her every activity. Though a hawkish woman she was devoted to his education and Wolfgang found himself spending near every waking hour under some lesson or another. Soon after his own arrival, an old Anhalder knight named Aleksei Ivanov appeared. A crude but experienced man and the lover of Elizabeth Kane's mother, Aleksei had come forth to guide the Duchess's hidden daughter. Despite her wary thoughts he was taken into service and given a household task. A new lesson on Wolfgang's day. Every morning at sunrise the two would train, the old man intent on making Wolfgang into a proper man of Anhald. For some reason, this time, the boy relented and embraced his role. The world lived by bloodshed and he could be no different if he wanted to protect his newfound family.

Soon that family expanded when Elizabeth Kane took a street rat named Jane into their home, dubbing her Jane 105127
Eisen, as well taking Jaden Seeker as a lover. Wolfgang continued to practice his skills with arms and sharpen his wit, learning Lavish and the intricacies of the arcane. All was peaceful, and life was easy. A facade soon shattered as the world came unhinged. Wraiths and phantoms invaded the realm of man, leaving Queensport a chaotic pit of blood and tired anger. A world breaker was coming: the Archon. Alongside him, two minor Gods called Figments appeared. One Strange, and one Knowing. During this time the boy met Sigmund von Hallon, a blessed of Ignis Synnove, and found faith. He sought to follow the man's course and serve God with his entire being.

With haste those of Queensport set to looking for truth among the world's unraveling.

Their search led them to graves, across the sea, and to hell itself. Religion set the boy and his original
mentor Sir Aleksei to bitter terms as the soldier acted in ways that seemed against all that was good and just in God's light.105131
From then on Wolfgang found himself under Sigmund's tutelage completely as he continued to progress as a warrior. A progression that proved important as the world only continued to fall apart. Archon arrived and brought with him the destruction of life and death itself. None aged, and none felt need. None died. It was a time of confusion and even God was without answers. She betrayed his mentor Sigmund and left him cursed. Wolfgang in his fury felt torn apart within, and abandoned Ignis for the arcane. He would never be fooled by Synnove again. The figment Strange, originally believed to be a hand of Archon, attacked Stormhall and took both Elizabeth Kane and her daughter Katherine. It would be weeks before they were both recovered.

Archon remained in man's realm and proved, to some, a superior alternative to the Grey Lady's cruelty. The world was split, and Wolfgang found himself standing with those he cared for against the deity. The angel was their gambit, and a battle loomed on the horizon at Archon's great rift.

Man and God against Man and God.

The world held its breath and waited.

Yet they soon found breath. Peace talks were passed between both camps and came to an agreed upon meeting. A parley between Gods. In the end peace was made between The Grey and Archon, and both sides came together to destroy a greater threat: Strange. This was the last time Wolfgang would feel like things made sense for a good time. Life continued on as it always had and old enemies reared their ugly heads once again as Wolfgang and his allies dealt with the Jishrimites of the Dark Order. Alongside that, Wolfgang learned what it meant to kill a man for real as war brewed to the south with Kilroxian cultists raiding the city of Blackrush. The boy took solace in his arcane studies and mentors, horrified.

Until his time as the mentored was over - Elizabeth Kane sought freedom from the burdens of leadership and offered him place as Regent to guide Katherine. He accepted, having made promises he intended to keep despite his shock and uncertainty. The boy's rule quickly ripped him into being a man and was an unending approach of troubles and hard decisions. Guiding the young heiress into a strong young woman was never something he had ever seen himself doing, and the pressure to ensure she was ready exhausted him. As before in his ever more fading innocence Wolfgang submerged himself in Eviscism; his power and strength grew by the day as he hungrily devoured any new knowledge he could find. It soothed the turmoil he felt like a silent friend, giving him an outlet for his anger and confusion. The world further hardened him and he reflected upon his role in Archon's surrender as a boy - something that felt wrong even then. His cowardice denied man their freedom from the cycle. The politics of Queensport and Gottland grew number and number as Wolfgang dealt through each of them, and a battle with a Figment left it within his body like a parasite. The Queen of White Lies. Immediately resent of her presence but too fearful of the cycle to go towards extremes to remove her, Wolfgang came to a tense understanding with White Lie and the rules of the body - his body - they now shared. His time as Regent drawing to an end Wolfgang finally felt free to begin his work.

"Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, tell me I am good enough."

[
CURRENT STATUS]

Wolfgang is soon free, and focuses on his own work and arcane skills.

[DEMEANOR & APPEARANCE]

Serious and ever thoughtful, Wolfgang is a confident young man prone to irritation and moments of anger. Yet he controls these emotions by letting them fuel his casting. Animancers tend to catch this despite his wishes, and others see only the Eviscist's mild expressions. Whether his magic tempers his mood or is the cause of it to begin with is unknown. At times - for seemingly no reason - Wolfgang has a tendency to look aside briefly or take expression inappropriate to the conversation he is currently having. Pragmatism drives his decisions when he can help it and this reflects within his neutral expressions. Beneath the exterior he conveys, however, he's an extremely emotionally driven being and prone to making poor choices as any mortal is. All of this culminates in an icy persona that strangers (and some allies) take at face value. For others, they see the conflicted man and his caution below it all.

Despite originally being an Anhalder from the south of the valley his time as a northerner has left him paler than most. His hazel eyes are accompanied by dark brows as black as his hair itself, which Wolfgang currently wears in a medium length that only barely misses touching his shoulders. Although fair to look at Wolfgang is by no means stunning - especially compared to many he calls companions. Some have said he would look better if he smiled more. Too young for proper facial hair, Wolfgang makes it a point to be clean shaven at all times.

[RELIGION]

"
No Gods, No Masters."

Once he was a student of the sun's faith. Yet his mentor was struck down from glory and left to suffer, bringing about both of their falls from the light. The arcane tempted him and he was unable to resist. Eviscism became his new faith and he found the power irresistible for it was his own, and it would never betray him. No God would ever betray him again. He tolerates them, for now, because he must - and some he cares for still worship.

It remains that: tolerance.

The being he now shares a body with troubles him for how close it is to these deities.

[CLOTHING & WEAPONRY]

In the north where he is most comfortable, Wolfgang wears a black coat with a large fur collar. When south he wears a more traditional doublet. Riding gloves and pants accompany both outfits, as does a gorget. His focus - a five foot two handed sword - is carried at his shoulder almost at all times. The metal of the blade has waves and folds within it and an inky black gem glows a dull amber at the pommel. A sheathed dagger rests at his hip. On occasion a longsword joins it.

[RELATIONS]

Elizabeth Kane |
Wolfgang loves her like a mother and thinks highly of her. She has left with him the best parts of herself and kept the worst away. He worries of her inclination to get lost in the arcane and fears she will one day - perhaps soon, if something drastic were to happen - lose herself the same way her old master did. Regardless he holds faith in her and would never see a single harm befall her.

Katherine Kane | His little sister in all but name. He respects all she's held onto from his teachings, and is proud of her for the quiet yet effective reign she's had thus far.

Sigmund von Hallon | A mentor and a brother. Wolfgang feels he can trust Sigmund in entirety and that through it all they shall be there for each other in the end of things. They both understand the truth.

Jane Eisen | They don't talk much, but are two sides of the same coin. Elizabeth's children and mages both despite their opposite personalities and traits. He's proud of her.

Otto von Stormhurz | He knows very little about the Storm Knight personally but views him as a stalwart figure of loyalty and honor. It eases his mind that Katherine will be safe and he is not needed forever.

Uriel Valhart | Is the man wasted in piety or is it what grants him his strength and valor? Wolfgang ponders often. His mind drifts towards the latter with every passing day.

Lothaire von Dugald | He's an odd one, but in the best sort of way. Wolfgang finds him of similar personality at times and reminds him of simpler moments in his life. Once he finds his footing, the elf will be invaluable in Katherine's rule.

Joseph Seeker | A fine master and a good friend as well. Wolfgang appreciates him.

Jaden Seeker | Dangerous to his foes and his friends. Brave and courageous, and dependable and foolhardy. Someone to trust and watch at the same time.

Asher Varyn | A hotheaded brat with time to grow into a great man. He regrets the thoughts of neutrality that led to that damn duel ever happening.

Richard Varyn | A powerful man with strong morals and an even greater sense of duty. He will make a fine apprentice.

Reyne von Alderwood | A free spirit much needed in their somber group, and devoted to their cause. Wolfgang appreciates his lighthearted thoughts and serious consideration to their camp's needs.

Clement | A free thinker and a cautious yet bold fighter, always unafraid to think thrice before acting. More importantly, a friend.

Wilhelm | Barely worth any amount of trust at all, but liked by the band of his cause. Maybe he'll grow into a brother as well.

Aryn | Aryn is a strong fighter and a good friend. Wolfgang wishes he did not devote himself to the divine so strongly, yet nothing is to be done about it. For now he will enjoy their friendship and hope the day never comes that they must come to blows.

Sir Peter Longtree | A good man and dependable despite his zealous nature. Wolfgang thinks he will be an asset to Katherine despite it.

Aisling | A welcome addition to the camp and a good spirit. They've had pleasant conversation and he considers her a friend.
