OOC RUNDOWN

It's a tournament arc over a few weekends where we fight for bragging rights of 'who's the best swordsman.' This first one we're going to limit to sixteen participants for simplicity with spots decided by a first come, first served basis outside of a few reserved spots. We're also going to test out a few mechanics to make things more interesting and keep things moving; it's all for fun, please don't take it too seriously outside of IC. CloakedReaper, Warwolf, and I will act as the tournament administrators for setting up schedules and upholding the tournament rules, and if any DMing, rule changes, or other similar decisions are needed.

TOURNAMENT FORMAT

The tournament itself will follow a double elimination format; there's a 'winner's bracket' for those that haven't lost any duels and a 'loser's bracket' for those that have lost one. The first time a contestant loses they’re seeded into the loser’s bracket, where they’ll be eliminated if they lose again. The grand final is between the winners of each bracket. The tournament will work in weekly 'rounds,' where each participant will fight once each weekend until it's down to the final two.

MECHANICS
These are subject to change midway if we think they're not working out great.

1. Fighters can take four ‘hits’ before they’re unable to continue the fight. (By convention each 'hit' is interpreted as a shallow wound or near miss that is the result of the recipient desperately avoiding it and not gaining much headway in their own attempts as a result. Any misuse of this is subject to competitive ruling by the administrators; just don't treat it as though you can tank a hit for an advantage elsewhere and it'll be fine.)

2. For a roll to be a hit it has to have two or more successes than the loser; ties and differences of one are considered to be near misses.

3. Insight: Participants may earn points of ‘Insight’ throughout the tournament that can be used to gain a step of advantage on a single roll during their match. Any sources of Insight are unique, and must be earned in the week prior to a match. (Any accumulated Insight resets at the end of the tournament round). The intention to use a point of insight must be declared before any rolls are made.
  • Up to one point of Insight may be earned by demonstrably training with another participant (current or disqualified) on at least three separate days leading up to a match. This must occur within Linlea to be counted, and must be done during hours where others can reasonably be online. You will be asked to provide dates and times.
  • Up to one point of Insight may be earned by studying their next opponent’s training. This must entail watching them for a reasonable amount of time, and if the opponent stops training prematurely then that day does not count towards their own Insight point.
  • Someone with at least ten melee or awareness dice that similarly studies at least two training sessions may grant a point of insight to their opponent in the next round.
  • The winner of the winner’s bracket gains a point of Insight to use in the grand final against the winner of the loser’s bracket.
