A song I made for Balatro , because I really admire the character development and I adore the story of how the people's prince finally became their enemy. I wrote it based on what Balatro told me about his character and the recent developments surrounding Rogue's Hearth.
This story/song is sung by the few remaining loyalists who remember Balatro's good deeds in the early days of Rogue's Hearth. Who are trying to persuade their fellow countrymen to see the good in Balatro and plea for his life in court. A true rebel song, about a people's hero whose death will surely result in his martyrdom, sung against the current regime in the South.
Rogue's Hearth is under siege.
Balatro, who founded the town, is captured and injured.
The few loyalists to Balatro must plea for his life in court.
Where have you been? Oh balatro
You came down south and gave us hope
Where are you now? Oh balatro
They got you good and now you face the rope
But we still stand by you; prince of the south
We raise our voices and angrily we shout:
We are the southerners who haven’t forgotten
He made us rogue’s hearth to gave us a home
We are the beggars, peasants and downtrodden
Give back our man, we want balatro
Was it the gambling, oh balatro?
Is that why they put your brother on the throne?
Was it your drugs use, oh balatro?
Is that why they broke our town with fire and stone?
But we still stand by you; prince of the south
We raise our voices and angrily we shout:
We are the southerners who haven’t forgotten
He made us rogue’s hearth to gave us a home
We are the beggars, peasants and downtrodden
Give back our man, we want balatro
One day we’ll leave, oh balatro
We will praise you, you gave us so much help
We’ll go up north, oh balatro
Once we are rich, you will be avenged!
But we still stand by you; prince of the south
We raise our voices and angrily we shout:
We are the southerners who haven’t forgotten
He made us rogue’s hearth to gave us a home
We are the beggars, peasants and downtrodden
Give back our man, we want balatro
