REVIVAL
A Guide to the Revival System
━─━────༺༻────━─━
The powers that restore life unto the dead have changed several times over time, from Shalherana and her Sisters holding the key to such restoration, to Jishrim taking root and twisting those returning in his own vision. Shifts in the process occur with events that significantly alter it as a whole, and whilst there are no punishing permanent gambles to death there are punishments and ailments that come with a returning soul.

REVIVAL APPLICATION
━─━────༺༻────━─━
There are several ways in which a character can be revived, which are outlined below. No matter which path you take, all revivals should be posted on the thread [here]. Revival times will vary on various factors, but all should be done within a general two week period. If yours exceeds this, contact staff.
CHARACTER NAME: Character’s name.
CAUSE OF DEATH: What was it that killed them?
STATE OF BODY: The current state of the corpse, including missing parts, as well as location.
WATCHED BY: Someone to have petitioned the revival, if applicable. If none, write ‘Untended’. Not necessary for Vyre or Fiendish revivals.
TIME OF DEATH: When did they die? Get at least the day of death.
REVIVAL TYPE: The type, such as ‘Path of Enlightenment’, ‘Touch of Undeath’, etc.
DEATH COUNT: How many deaths so far?
DID YOU DO /REVIVE INGAME?: Please do! It gets you on the queue for us.

REVIVAL RULES
━─━────༺༻────━─━
There are things to be considered when reviving, regardless of the type you choose. These should be kept in mind when playing your character anew.
From the moment of death, the events of how it happened become hazy and vague as if it is too violent to recall. It can be traumatising to be made aware of it. There is no set OOC timer on how much memory is lost, but you should not be able to pinpoint who did it, how, or where.
Resurrection always comes at a cost; reviving characters suffer some manner of consequence for the ordeal of returning to life. All those who revive will be given a ‘Revival Ailment’, which revival staff will roll for and update your application post accordingly.
REVIVAL AILMENTS
━─━────༺༻────━─━
Everyone who revives will be given an ailment, with an increase in amounts and severity the more often you revive. This is said to be a result of the gradual shifts and changes with powerful entities and the planes themselves, with death now having more tangible costs.
For revivals, revival staff will roll from the table below. Each death adds another die (1d6) to be rolled, with their sum determining the affliction suffered by the reviving soul. If a character is already suffering from the effect that was rolled, it may be rerolled.
[1-6]
{ 1 } They occasionally glimpse an image of a figure or creature related to death, but it does not give away any identity. It could be a vague silhouette of an armoured figure, the glint of red eyes from a spider, so on.
{ 2 } They hear the occasional distant whisper or sound of movement.
{ 3 } They find their veins faintly glow a purple hue, they feel too hot and are prone to sweating at all times for the next OOC week.
{ 4 } A minor fear related to their death is developed, such as a fear of drowning, darkness, spiders, etc. This fear can be overcome or played out in more subtle ways.
{ 5 } They find themselves with several deep gouges from an unknown source, as if cut with glass. They will need to find a healer with haste.
{ 6 } They lose a minor memory not related to their death. It should not be a memory loss that benefits you such as forgetting you were involved in a crime.
[7-12]
{ 7 } They find themselves repulsed by the touch of metal, prompting a shudder and a surge of a shock with flickers of purple lightning any time they make contact with it. This fades after an OOC week.
{ 8 } They are missing a part of themselves, as if it didn’t finish growing. This can be an eye, a hand, an ear, or several fingers.
{ 9 } Everything seems duller in taste, nothing seems quite as rich in flavour anymore.
{ 10 } Their skin is cool to the touch, and always a degree paler than it should be.
{ 11 } They suffer from nosebleeds, headaches, and waves of nausea for the next OOC week, with a permanent increase in intensity should they occur naturally in the future.
{ 12 } Occasionally, they feel a brief pang of pain from an injury related to death. Be it the ache in their lungs from drowning or the sting of a wound.
[13-18]
{ 13 } They become blind in one eye, the eye itself becoming entirely white.
{ 14 } They lose memory of a core part of themselves, be it the entire loss of their childhood, how to use a blade, or a language.
{ 15 } They glimpse phantom figures in the corner of their vision, now and then, and find their sleep or daydreaming disrupted by unnerving or horrifying figures.
{ 16 } They revive, but they revive close to death, wounded and injured with a memory of violet lightning arcing around them as they first opened their eyes. These wounds can be at player discretion. They have flickers of a memory of dying that is not accurate, as if they have taken the wounds of another.
{ 17 } They lose their sense of smell, or taste, completely.
{ 18 } They are permanently more sensitive to the light of day, preferring the shade or darker areas.
[19-24]
{ 19 } They can no longer see in colour, everything taking on a monochromatic tone.
{ 20 } They revive in full, but find at some point in the next day one of their arms or legs just flakes away into deep purple ash before it too fades into nothing.
{ 21 } Upon looking at their reflection, they do not seem to recognise who they are looking at, but distantly remember it is them. It never seems to be entirely as they expect.
{ 22 } Their voice softens and strains to the point of being unable to ever shout or yell again.
{ 23 } They have a key personality trait shift and change into something else, be it going from a calmer person to one more prone to violence, having a cruel streak fade into a kinder outlook, etc.
{ 24 } They suffer significant memory loss, and whilst it is to be considered severe this severity is up to the player.
REVIVAL TYPES
━─━────༺༻────━─━
Below, you will find the various types in which a character can be returned to life.
[ PATH OF ENLIGHTENMENT ]
This path is powered through the divine court of Shalherana, and those deemed evil or too harmful to mortalkind will not be given such grace of a new life, and must seek out other means. Those returning through this path will feel actively against harming another or spilling blood for several days after (3 OOC) unless in a case of major self defense. If they do, their wounds may re-open and risk death anew.
Those blessed of Shalherana will have the knowledge of the ritual process.
༺ Ritual;
The body of the fallen must be cleansed in holy water, injuries tended to best they can be (wounds sewn, bones realigned, etc), and a covering of some sort of fabric over the body completely. A living witness must stand guard over them for the next day, allowing themselves to feel drained and tired for the duration, as they draw Shalherana’s focus to the fallen. As a result, they may take one of the scars from the fallen upon themselves instead when they return to life (if applicable).
Note: If the body is ashes, it should be surrounded with a ring of earth.
Upon the completion of this ritual, the body will begin to repair itself, leaving behind pale scar lines for the wounds sustained. Limbs will regrow if they were lost within a day prior to their death, and ashes restored if they were burnt. When they are revived, they will awaken from where they lay.
༺ Untended;
Those untended (or lost) are given mercy, their bodies fading into white petals upon their revival. They will restore at the Sisterhood upon revival being approved, feeling particularly fragile and weakened. The time may be longer until restoration, and all scars will ache for a few hours upon return.
[ TOUCH OF UNDEATH ]
This path is powered through the divine court of Skraag, and may be used on any individual. Those who would not be returned to life through Shalherana’s path for the untended will default to this. Those returning through this path will feel themselves fearful of risking death anew for the next few days, and thus disinclined to getting into situations of significant violence(3 days OOC) less Skraag considers his work a waste and the wounds re-open to risk death anew.
Those blessed of Skraag will have the knowledge of the ritual process.
༺ Ritual;
The body of the fallen must be marked with blood upon the head, hands, and feet, and the offering of a heart belonging to a human or animal left upon their chest. After an incantation willing Skraag to return life to them, they must bury the body in a shallow grave, coffin optional. The invoker must then spill some of their own blood over the fresh soil, and leave it in the hands of Skraag and his divine court.
Note: If the body is ashes, it should be surrounded with a ring of blood.
Upon completion of this ritual, the body will begin to fix itself by stitching itself with black thread to seal any open wounds. Limbs lost within a day prior to death will be restored as if the part has been taken from someone else, but will return to appearing as if it were your own over the next few days. Ashes will be restored in full. When they are revived, they will awaken where they were, and must crawl through the dirt or break through their coffins to escape. They will appear sickly and unwell for the rest of the day, but will recover.
༺ Untended;
Those untended (or lost) are given mercy, their bodies fading into a cloud of black moths upon their revival. They will restore within the Sorrows upon revival being approved, feeling particularly fragile and weakened. The time may be longer until restoration, and they will appear almost undead for the next day upon return with the extent at player discretion.
VYRE REANIMATION
━─━────༺༻────━─━
Those Vyres who are not staked when they die will be able to return to life differently. Information can be found on the Vyre thread here.
FIENDISH RETURN
━─━────༺༻────━─━
If your character is a Fiend, state such upon your application. Information can be found on the Fiend thread here.
ARCANE RESTORATION
━─━────༺༻────━─━
Revival through Arcane means is a difficult and arduous task, but can be done. Exact details for Arcane Restoration are yet to be released in full.
ETERNAL PASSIVE
━─━────༺༻────━─━
Revival in this method does not count towards the standard revival count, but post on the thread with 'Eternal' specified as the method for record keeping. The usual memory loss mechanics apply to revival through this method; the details of their death are hazy, and they remember little of the actual deed. This is a divine passive achieved at T4 of the divine system. [ Divine Passives ]
