The Kingdom Guard

Please note: Many (most) of these are NPC roles. The structure here is outlined for use in DM'd events, in addition to player members.
The goal here is to structure it in a way that is conceivably realistic, even if not actually seen in practice.

| Structure & Ranks
The guard is divided between Garrisons and the Landsguard, the former of which operating in a particular town, settlement, or fortification, and the latter being mobile patrols that secure the Kingdom's lands.
The guard is divided into four key ranks:
Lord/Lady Marshal
The head of the guard in its entirety.
Captain
The leader of a garrison, or one of the senior members of the Landsguard.
Lieutenant
The deputies to a Captain in their command, usually leading guards on day to day business and patrols.
Guardsman/Guardswoman (alternatively 'Guard' in plural or to avoid gender)
The day-to-day foot soldiers of the Kingdom. Although equal in rank, in a group of guards generally those with the most experience will take charge.
| Organisation
The Landsguard operates on a rotating basis, with different patrols making use of beds and supplies from their nearest garrison which they are working out of. These rotations usually are no longer than two months, and they are better-compensated for their more turbulent position.
There are currently five garrisons in the Kingdom:
Eldpoint Guard
Led by Captain Zelphar Elleria (NPC)
The Eldpoint Guard is the largest of the garrisons, keeping order within the city's walls (with the exception of the Palace), in the fields immediately surrounding the city, and aiding in Verdant Valley when requested. They are known to be 'city-slickers' to many outside of the walls, being the most strict with the rules, and perhaps a bit naïve of the world around them.
Forthyr's Rock Garrison
Led by Captain Albert Rehalia ( Retro )
The garrison of 'the Rock' was hand-picked by the then-Princess Amelia in the wake of the brief noble coup that took hold in Eldpoint. Many of the guards lost families and homes in the conflict, and were given a life anew in the castle at the mouth of the bay. They are known to be the most loyal of the guards, and hold a strong comradery within their ranks, making them more effective in their (admittedly small) home turf.
Keg's Hearth Garrison
Led by Captain Gorwin Aeroris (NPC)
Known affectionately (or perhaps bitterly) within the guard as a holiday masquerading as a post, a small garrison is posted in the peaceful village of Keg's Hearth, spending most of their time dealing with drunkards falling into the water or chasing after cats which have wandered off. The guard is primarily a mixture of elves and dwarves, and has been known to play pranks on its newest members, their generally laid-back attitude being the opposite of their city-dwelling brethren.
Eisenheim Garrison
Led by Captain Ava Terrora (NPC)
The most remote of the current Garrisons, Eiseinheim is largely detached from the rest of the Kingdom. As a result, bandits often like to strike travelers and merchants on the long road to the town, and Landsguard patrols, while helping the problem, are not able to quell the current tide. It is considered the most dangerous of the five garrisons, and those who remain there are generally the most hardened, having seen actual combat. Though they may wear the same armour as the rest of the Kingdom, many of the guards serve their community and each other above anything else. A resident tortora that wanders the area, 'Branchy', is an unofficial member.
Household Guard
Led by Captain Adepheus Adreon ( Emmaway )
In charge of protecting the Eldpoint Palace and members of the Royal Family and Court, the Household Guard on occasion ventures with dignitaries outside of the Kingdom's boundaries in their service. They are known to be competent fighters, take their role incredibly seriously, and often struggle to take a joke. They consider themselves separate from the rest of the Kingdom's guard, and rarely interact with them outside of their duties, focusing on refinement and practice of their craft.
| Equipment & Attire
Full Harness / Battle Dress
Guardsmen in their ornate dress are generally armoured with steel halberds as their primary weaponry.
A cloak drapes over the back of their armour, and for those members of the Landsguard, it is emblazoned
with an angel's wing on its centre.

State Attire / Other Duties

When on less strictly combat or service-oriented roles (such as idly patrolling in a city), some guardsmen may wear
this more formal, less armoured design. In such attire, the usual armament is a sabre of some sort, generally made of steel.
