Is this the first campaign monster to have DCs/stats?Hello there! The dragon fight included a bit of an experiment of having a monster with DCs and stats. I like math, and will explain some of the math for anyone interested in clicking below.
Blight Dragon:
Total AC: 14 | Complex AC: 8+6
-'AC' (Armor Class) is the roll necessary to hit the dragon with an attack. The base roll needed to hit the dragon was an 8, but mundane attacks less of than 14 did not do damage. The six-number window in between was for attacks that would hit but would otherwise apply an effect, such as spells.
Total Health: 20
-This was a rough measure of how much damage the dragon could take, with each attack that landed usually taking one point. Crits count double, and spells did damage based on their level. After seven damage was dealt to it, the dragon could no longer fly, and continued the fight on the ground.
Dragon Actions:
Blight Breath: The dragon spewed a stream of scalding ooze once near the start of the fight. Below an 11 on a saving throw took some damage, below a 7 took full damage. Statistically, it would have been nasty if the roll was not made at conditional advantage (thank Florian). It could do this once every ten rounds, and was getting close to being able to use it again when the dragon was slain.
Roar: The dragon let out a stunningly loud roar. Those that did not beat a 14 were stunned for the next round. It could use this every five rounds, and used it twice in the fight.
Slam: The dragon bodyslammed an area. It was a DC 12 to avoid getting hit, and the dragon did 1d4 damage to itself every time this happened. This happened automatically when it was forced out of the air.
Tail Sweep: The dragon attacked with its tail. This was a DC 12 AoE, and hit a few people.
Claw: Attack with its claw. This one was a DC 14 to avoid.
Bite: Settled with contested roll. The dragon never rolled a 19 or 20 on this, and nobody was devoured this day.
Fight Stats:
Damage Breakdown: 11 damage was done to the dragon as the result of spells. It did four damage to itself with a slam attack. One was done by thrown projectiles, and the remaining four was done by mundane weapons.
Largest Damage Source: The 1d4 damage on a slam/fall did the most damage to the dragon, with very high rolls each time it happened (3, 3, and 4). Six of this damage was done by it failing to save against the downdraft spell.
Highest Total Damage: Ayda was responsible for 10 total damage, with 7 directly from her spells and the remaining 3 in conjunction with JoeJoe's downdraft.
Killing Blow: Electric dealt the final blow to the dragon as Asero.
Close Calls:
-Florian's (Cap ) crit spell cast near the start of the fight would have dealt 4 damage and left it unable to fly if it had fully hit. It instead dealt one damage and blinded the dragon to give everyone advantage on their saving throws against its breath, which statistically would have otherwise incapacitated around a third of those affected.
