On the Skeletal Masque found within the Third Pit of Magic
~
To Those it May Concern:
Over time that's passed since the expedition into the Third Pit, time has been spent studying the masque which was recovered. As depicted, the overall shape is reminiscent of a skull. The lower jaw is constructed from what appears to be wood, while the upper part of the masque is sewn from leather scrap. Most troubling is the top row of teeth, which does, in fact, appear to be constructed from actual teeth. The jaw is sewn shut. There are four sets of glyphs on the artifact above the right eye, on the head strap, under the left eye, and on the bottom of the jaw. Through further examination, it has determined that these glyphs read "Silence", "Quiet", "Hush", and "Mute". Assumedly, the latent power of this masque was intended to be used to keep its wearer silent. Whatever power is contained within now lies inert, or was never there, to begin with; this mask does not appear to do anything. Still, it will be properly disposed of.
