Legend
Veraci is a coastal city just north of Storm’s Landing, built with canals weaving through the city and streets bustling with business. It’s renowned for its beautiful buildings that seem to sit upon the picturesque teal sea, built with colorful materials and framed in marble. Gardens and all assortments of greenery are also scattered around the city, which can be traversed by bridges and roads but also, most enjoyably, gondolas or rowboats. The weather is pleasant all year round, as it has a Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers and cool, wet winters.
Originally, it was settled by Amalfians who escaped their ruined city and was ruled by Rogerius Ricci. When the Ashen Blight occurred, it hit Veraci particularly hard - thousands died and many more were swindled by opportunists and criminals. However, with Asero Crow at Rogerius’ side as Master of Coin, the city was rebuilt to its former glory and started to expand. Now, Asero rules as Count of Veraci with his wife Laisa, and the city continues to prosper.

+ The Count +
Veraci is ruled by the Count, and he heads all decisions in the city. His power is almost limitless, as he oversees the domains of his Ministers as well. He is tasked with, among other things, ensuring the financial well-being of the city and upholding Veraci’s reputation as The City of Fortune. Furthermore, he acts as the presiding judge for all high-caliber legal disputes, though if directly involved, it is often seen as fairer to elect another judge instead.
+ The Countess +
Unlike other government systems, in Veraci the Count and Countess are equal in power. The Countess can make decrees just like the Count, however traditionally both must be in agreement in order to make edicts and changes to standing law. In the Count’s stead, should anything happen to him, the Countess assumes power.
+ The Ministers +
The Count delegates specific areas of government to his Ministers. The Minister of Trade deals with, generally, all types of trade and monetary business. Essentially, he is the banker of Veraci, and his duty is to make sure Veraci is always profiting, first and foremost. The Minister of Defense, on the other hand, operates over all areas of security and law enforcement. He commands the Veracian Guard and works with other members of government to make Veraci a safe and peaceful place.
+ The Council +
Below the Ministers is the Council. It is made up of individuals who are simply advisors to the Count, Countess, and their Ministers. They hold little-to-no executive power, but the job is prestigious and anyone within the Council can expect no small amount of respect and wealth.
