─◇ | HISTORY | ◇─
Veraci is a coastal city just north of Storm’s Landing, built with canals weaving through the city and streets bustling with business. It’s renowned for its beautiful buildings that seem to sit upon the picturesque teal sea, built with colorful materials and framed in marble. Gardens and all assortments of greenery are also scattered around the city, which can be traversed by bridges and roads but also, most enjoyably, gondolas or rowboats. The weather is pleasant all year round, as it has a Mediterranean climate with warm, dry summers and cool, wet winters.
Originally, it was settled by Amalfians who escaped their ruined city and was ruled by Rogerius Ricci. When the Ashen Blight occurred, it hit Veraci particularly hard - thousands died and many more were swindled by opportunists and criminals. However, with Asero Crow at Rogerius’ side as Master of Coin, the city was rebuilt to its former glory and started to expand. Now, Asero rules as Count of Veraci with his wife Laisa, and the city continues to prosper.

─◇ | GOVERNMENT | ◇─
+ The Count +
Veraci is ruled by the Count, and he heads all decisions in the city. His power is almost limitless, as he oversees the domains of his Ministers as well. He is tasked with, among other things, ensuring the financial well-being of the city and upholding Veraci’s reputation as The City of Fortune. Furthermore, he acts as the presiding judge for all high-caliber legal disputes, though if directly involved, it is often seen as fairer to elect another judge instead.
+ The Countess +
Unlike other government systems, in Veraci the Count and Countess are equal in power. The Countess can make decrees just like the Count, however traditionally both must be in agreement in order to make edicts and changes to standing law. In the Count’s stead, should anything happen to him, the Countess assumes power.
+ The Ministers +
The Count delegates specific areas of government to his Ministers. The Minister of Trade deals with, generally, all types of trade and monetary business. Essentially, he is the banker of Veraci, and his duty is to make sure Veraci is always profiting, first and foremost. The Minister of Defense, on the other hand, operates over all areas of security and law enforcement. He commands the Veracian Guard and works with other members of government to make Veraci a safe and peaceful place.
+ The Council +
Below the Ministers is the Council. It is made up of individuals who are simply advisors to the Count, Countess, and their Ministers. They hold little-to-no executive power, but the job is prestigious and anyone within the Council can expect no small amount of respect and wealth.

─◇ | ATTRACTIONS | ◇─
With many shops and dining spots, visitors and citizens alike have numerous ways to spend a day in Veraci. The city is very much alive with the sights and sounds of business - merchants travel through the streets, displaying their wares in hopes of a profit, while shops situated all over the city try to entice possible patrons in with all sorts of rare and quality goods. Veraci is a place of the exclusive and expensive - fancier wares tend to cost more than a handful of radiants, but such is the nature of high-class shopping.

─◇ | ECONOMY | ◇─
The competition for wealth is fierce in Veraci, and there are no guarantees here. Many foreigners have taken up shop in the city, where they contend with the native businesses. The most popular form of business is artistic and mercantile ventures, where foreign and domestic goods are bought, sold, exported, imported, hoarded, and gambled within the city. Generally, trade revolves around the city’s main products; rare spices and fine wines, exquisite cuisine, art, quality garments, jewelry, and an assortment of luxury goods. If one is lucky enough to make it big in Veraci, they may become sponsored by the State, thus allowing their prestige and wealth to further expand.

─◇ | VERACIAN LAW | ◇─
The laws and regulations in Veraci are enacted by the Count (or Countess), the Ministers, and potentially the Council. The Count proposes a law when he sees fit, which the Ministers then review and redraft in accordance with their specific area of expertise; for example, the Minister of Trade might amend a proposed law to allow a swifter and more inexpensive implementation, while the Minister of Defense might rework it to not compromise the safety of Veraci's citizens or the effectiveness of its Guard. The Ministers may also suggest new laws for the Count to implement. Oftentimes, the Council will be involved throughout the drafting process. However, the responsibility implementing laws lies exclusively with the Count or Countess and his Ministers.
+ The Tome of Law +
1. It is unlawful to commit murder. Murderers will be dealt with severely.
1.1 Murder of Necessity: Under certain circumstances (self-defense, for instance) taking a life may be excused as a necessary action. However, if no reliable witnesses are present to validate the circumstance, the murderer(s) must justify the necessity of their actions in court.
2. It is unlawful to assault a citizen of Veraci, and even more so a foreigner.
2.1 Vyrism: Vyres are welcome in Veraci, as long as they do not disturb the peace. Feeding off and/or turning an unwilling person is considered assault of the highest degree.
3. It is unlawful to steal and loot under all circumstances.
4. It is unlawful to deface or vandalize public or private property. As a citizen of Veraci, you are expected to uphold Her Beauty.
4.1 Littering: Dirtying the city's streets or canals is akin to dirtying one's own residence. While citizens aren't severely punished for littering, the law is enforced without compromise.
5. It is unlawful to shed the blood of innocent animals or beasts for no reason. If it does not attack you and is not your farm animal, it is not game.
6. Libel or defamation is unlawful. Based on the severity, it can be punished.
7. It is unlawful to kidnap or enslave.
8. It is unlawful to cause chaos or harm in the name of the Pantheon.
8.1 Jishrim: The worship of Jishrim is forbidden and Jishrimites will be dealt with
severely.
8.2 Skraag: The worship of Skraag is forbidden and Skraagites will be dealt with
severely.
9. It is unlawful to engage in bribery and/or forgery.
10. It is unlawful to impersonate a member of the Government.
OOC Rules: All server rules apply to Veraci. Additionally:
The region is [Moderate] - adhere to consent rules, which can be found HERE.
Do not grief or steal items. If you break something, fix it or ask me to fix it.
Please tell me if you’ll be inactive - after six months of inactivity, I’ll reclaim your house/shop and the contents. All you have to do to avoid this is contact me!

Oh I’m aware of that, but the Veracians think of Amalfia as always having been Amalfia, and that any other name that’s been given to it was one given to it by conquerors. As such, those names are illegitimate to them.

Finally, I've rehauled and updated this whole thread. New formatting and a new section - Job Openings! Veraci's got a handful of open positions, as well as new houses and shop spaces. Hope to fill those up soon!
