There was pain, panic, and then there was a coldness. A sort of eerie silence, before you can hear a faint dripping sound, a quiet but constant wind that seems too far away. Your eyes begin to make out vague shapes as you awaken, great pillars of dark stone that support the even darker stone of a cave ceiling. Several shallow pools of water rest at the sides as it trickles down from an unknown source and you can feel the faint, cold breeze upon your face. A single fire is lit in the centre, within a type of metallic bowl resting upon a pedestal, but the flames glow a muted and dull orange and burn with no fuel beneath them, never to extinguish. There is movement in the corner, but you can see nothing in the darkness that shadows it.

On the other side of the cave some distance away, between two more giant pillars, is the source of the breeze. You walk closer to see what the faint grey hue is, and once you are near enough the wind begins to whip around you as you walk out onto a precipice and gaze down. Like a river of smoke and fog, but with distinct figures gliding through. Faces, their eyes closed, some arms curled around others, the souls of the dead move by and you startle backwards into the relative safety of the cave once more.

A glimpse down and you find all your injuries remain, a limb roughly sewn on but the wounds received are still open. No blood flows here, you find, and you are not dead... But also not living.

[OOC INFORMATION]
This is the cave of return, a place that souls will drift to if they are yet willing to return to life. You will appear here after death and you are able to RP in this thread and remember all that happens here once you return. You will find that the cave itself becomes hazy, like you cannot quite picture it, but the individuals there and the conversations you have will remain. You will not remember how you came to be in the cave, the actual memories of dying are gone, but you may recall the events leading up to it. Running from something... The dark clouds of a storm ahead. A battle you charge into.

You may RP on the forums, but you also have the option of going to the location in game via /warp cave - Please only go here if you should be here IC.

|| You will appear in the cave in the state you were when you died, and not from anything after the killing blow/time of death even if someone takes to removing parts of you.
|| Any limbs removed prior to the actual time of death will be 'crudely stitched on' so we don't have you wandering in with no head.
|| Pain is not felt here, blood does not flow, parts cannot be removed.
|| Any violence may provoke a response from something else, and you may find your revival time extends as a result. You feel an IC pang of warning if you take to trying to violently maul people here.
|| You wear robes and basic cotton garments beneath. You feet are bare. All weapons and armour and the like are gone, for they are still with your physical body.
|| Upon revival, you will disperse into wisps of fog.
|| Should you opt to jump into the river of souls, you will be choosing not to be revived. This must be a conscious choice by the player. No one can be pushed in and if they try, there will be consequences.
