(This is somewhat outdated, from when he was sixteen. He's since grown and bulked up, but the style of armor is still accurate - especially the helmet - just proportioned differently.)

Asher has lived a life surrounded by death, from youth with his mercenary father and camp follower mother, to now having won his greatest accolades through trials of arms.
Civilization is little more than a pretense which controls and shapes the inherent nature of man.

PHYSICAL APPEARANCE
Height: 6'4
Weight: Heavyset.
Eye Color: Grey.
Skin Color: No different than other northerner, pale.
Distinguishing Features: He has a scar on the left side of his head, a glancing blow from a lunging sword.
Build of Body: Asher looks like an echo of his great-grandfather Gelyk Varyn, who he more closely resembles than his recent kin.
Hair Color: Black.
Hair Style: Short on the sides, long on the top.
Complexion: Smooth.
Scars: As aforementioned, a long scar on the side of his head from his duel with his late cousin and former Count of Varyn.
Voice: His particular cadence seems to have a lot of sharpness to it, giving everything he says a sometimes undeserved air of decisive thought.

Asher does not often think about any sort of divine reward for his efforts on earth, anymore. He tells himself that he acts in the interests of a legacy for his children, but the vast majority of his actions - like any man's - aren't driven by some penultimate higher purpose. Most of his day-to-day living and decision making is driven by a constant drive to preserve the order he has created much disorder to foster.

PERSONALITY
Likes: Asher does not have any unusual or distasteful perversions, he can appreciate all of the things an average man would in spite of his station.
Dislikes: He is extremely opposed to ultimatums in all forms, implied or explicit. Negotiations, in his mind, is the bedrock of his society.
Strengths: Asher is not without wit, or without discretion. He is bold and decisive in the decisions he makes, quickly committing to a course without doubt.
Weaknesses: Often, what are Asher's strengths are also his weakness. He is tied closely to his chosen one course he has made it, whether or not it turns out to be wise in the end, he is reluctant to leave a road once he has embarked upon it. He is prone to anger as well, albeit not so much now as when he was younger - he has learned harsh lessons about what words spoken in anger often result in. He also is often quite shy, especially in private; loathe is he to disclose any personal details or any sincerity he would not speak before the court, for it is both his nature and this has led to much personal betrayal.
Fears: Asher lives in utter dread of the day that all of his family has either passed or cut off all ties with him.
Values: Communication - honest, forthright dialogue between all parties, opposed or otherwise.
Education: Asher was raised in the style of nobility as best was possible by his father while being apart of a mercenary company. It gave him an upbringing rather confused in scope - he knows how to hitch a cart, but he also a complex and broad vocabluary.
Languages: Common, Rede
General Attitude: Asher does his best to present himself as a wise and powerful king of old, as charitable to his allies as he is wrothful to his enemies.
Religious Inclination: He is quite disenfranchized with religion. In private, he cannot help but think sometimes that much of it had been some sort of scam or trick played upon him.

Asher is a deeply creative person, even if he has no creative outlet for he also feels at all times that he must do naught but focus on his duty and his family. He has frequent and rather severe dreams, often so surreal that they boggle the mind. Once he wrote poetry or short stories in an attempt to put unspoken thoughts to words, but now he finds that the written words of others speak to him and put his mind at ease.

Notable Possessions:
+Wendigo Crown
It appears to be a crown made of fused bone or antlers.
The antlers making up the crown were once the pride of the largest Wendigo known at the time, and through some unknown influence it still affects the wendigo of today. When worn, wendigo seem to treat the wearer with some measure of fear or respect and refuse to attack them.
+Dawnbreak
The ancestral sword of House Varyn, with a black leather-wrapped hilt and a blade as white as judgement. A bear's head is its decorative pommel. Whoever bears the sword bears the distinction of being recognized as the penultimate warrior of the Varyn line, for anyone of Varyn blood may be able to challenge for them for ownership of the blade to be decided in course of a lawful duel.

TRAINING & SKILLS
Swordsmanship [6/10] Asher is still not, and will likely never be, a master swordsman. But, he has improved much since his days of being uncertain how to even swing the thing, and he is reasonably competent now even when considering other nobility.
Polearms [8/10] He is reasonably proficient, and has learned how to properly wield the thing in battle - polehammers in particular are his primary weapon in battle, and he has had one specially made for himself.
Riding [6/10] Reasonably proficient in the saddle both riding for leisure and into battle.

RELATIONS

Katherine Kane. His lady wife and companion for the last six years. There is more comfort in their frequent arguments and disagreements than there is genuine heat, and he adores her.

Richard Varyn. He cannot help but look at his cousin and be reminded of a shared boyhood, a shared trust and mutual love, and that he is the only kin who has not cut off all contact with Asher. Asher loves him, and he is deeply afraid of Richard. He does not know if his efforts to redeem his cousin are in vain, but he does know that the last cousin to grow mad Asher personally put down. Richard's eyes unsettle him.

James Varyn. He took Asher in, he acknowledged Asher as his blood, he granted Asher lands and titles, and most of all he trusted Asher. Then, Asher slew him and usurped him as Count of Varyn and became wielder of Dawnbreak.

Jorvun of Blackrush. Asher likes Jorvun, and he assumes him to be a principled but reasonable man.

Uriel Valhart. One of the people that Asher trusted most, because of his sincere and heartfelt worship of Valiant - a deity that Asher thought honorable and forthright. But, Uriel is but a man, and as prone to pettiness and misdeeds as any other. Uriel lashing out to him out of nothing but spite, after years of trying to slowly and gradually introduce Uriel and his ideology into the Kaltstaat was a small event at the time, but in hindsight was the final straw between Asher's relationship with the divine and his growing distrust of orthodox faith.

Podric Flanders. Asher once saw the man as a paragon of virtue and moderation. Now, he cannot help but think of Podric as being a man who is composed of little more than platitudes laced occasionally with unconscious greed. Diplomatic by nature - in the way that Podric is a cowardly man by nature, and diplomacy is the only course he can take to not jeopardize his reputation or put his place at risk. He accepts the accolades laid upon him, but does not share the wealth to his people. He is not a river, as Asher once thought.

Doggett von Dog. The man irritates Asher to no small degree. He is dirty, a drunken lout, never has had a day of hard labor in his life, and he smells. If that weren't enough, he has never followed up on any noble commissions or duties that he ought, seemingly just out of total ignorance of the court and its functions. Asher would not even remember his name, were it not for the fact that he single-handedly kept the crown's finances in complete and total order, and he ran such a tight ship that no matter the cause, he has always produced money for it and made sure that the crown kept itself in order financially. It's the damnable worst.

Jane Eisen. Asher is uncomfortable in Jane's presence. He is well aware that she is not fond of him, and that Katherine and her share no deficit of sisterly love. Like many of his childhood friends, he is wary that if he opens himself up to her, it will do naught but bite him in the ass.

Varik. Asher's profundity of fatherly love for his infant son has a second outlet in the form of Varik, for his son is still too young for him to teach things like how to wield a sword and how to fight and act at court. He is deeply fond of this temporary surrogate - even if it is entirely instinctual.

Raalvara. He finds it quite hard to miss her, in spite of feeling guilty over ruining her life.

Lothaire. His old friend, who fills Asher with fear entirely unrelatd to Lothaire as a person. His only friend who hasn't betrayed his trust or intimacy yet, Asher is extremely anxious that if he is ever vulnerable with Lothaire, he will.

Jean Mathieu. Asher does not think often of Jean, but when he sees him he is reminded of the good side of Ignis Synnove worship.

Vladislaw Walanescu. Asher has a somewhat complex opinion of Vlad. On the one hand, he is devoted to the kingdom and to Asher himself. On the other, he is a torturer and villainous scum. And yet... he also has virtue. And yet... what he does is hardly virtuous. And yet, and yet, and yet. He is useful to Asher personally and the kingdom as a whole, as long as he continues to be loyal. Asher doesn't understand a man who could have complex morals enough to be reliably loyal but also be a villain.
